By Democrats have begun neutering themselves over Trump’s return to the House.
Literally.
Earlier in the week Michigan State Representative Laurie Pohutsky, 36, recently revealed that she underwent voluntary sterilization, citing concerns over reproductive rights under former President Donald Trump. Speaking to demonstrators outside the state Capitol in Lansing, Pohutsky explained that her decision stemmed from fears about potential restrictions on contraception and reproductive healthcare.
As a former speaker pro tempore in the Michigan House, Pohutsky has been a vocal advocate for reproductive rights. Her statement was part of a larger protest against the possibility of Trump returning to office. While the president has argued that abortion policies should be determined by individual states and Donald Trump first came to the public as a well-known playboy, Pohutsky apparently has deluded herself into believing that Trump will move to ban contraception.
The Detroit News writes that Pohutsky of Livonia discussed her Jan. 23 surgery while giving a speech Wednesday on the steps of the Michigan Capitol for a rally against Trump’s first actions of his second term in the White House.
“A sitting government official opted for voluntary sterilization because she was uncertain she would be able to access contraception in the future,” Pohutsky said of herself, at one point.
She added later, “I refuse to let my body be treated as currency by an administration that only sees value in my ability to procreate.”
Pohutsky’s remarks were greeted by applause from the hundreds of individuals gathered on the Capitol lawn Wednesday. Organized described the event, which coincided with similar protests across the nation, as a rally “to reject authoritarianism and defend democracy.”

Pohutsky framed her decision within the sweeping implications of Trump’s executive orders—measures that, while legally dubious, nevertheless exerted a chilling effect on reproductive and transition-related medical procedures. A four-term House member, she had contemplated the procedure for some time, discussing it with her husband for over a year. In 2024, she scheduled the surgery. When Trump began issuing executive orders—devoid of statutory authority but politically potent—she resolved to follow through.
“I didn’t have a lot of confidence that I would be able to get it done later,” she admitted.
The Democrat appeared to confuse her own voluntary sterilization with the broader crackdown on sterilizing children who believe they should change their gender, according to The News. Corewell Health, the hospital system where she underwent the procedure, announced this week that it would cease providing gender-affirming care to minors—a move seemingly prompted by Trump’s latest directive targeting transition-related medical interventions for young people.
One of Pohutsky’s Republican colleagues noted how radical the Democrats have become. Rep. Brad Paquette said she “has been on a crusade to enable abortion of unborn babies up until birth since we entered the Legislature together 6 years ago.”
“She very well knows that President Trump can not take away her ability to abort her unborn baby here in Michigan,” Paquette said. “Publicly announcing the destruction of her reproductive system to further misinformation for political gain must be condemned by all.”
2028 hopeful Gretchen Whitmer, the governor or Michigan, has built her entire career making Michigan one of the most pro-abortion states in the country. In 2022, she steered a constitutional provision that protects the right to reproductive freedom that many have said legalizes abortion until birth. It has become almost her entire identity.
Democrats in the Great Lakes State have become so obsessed with abortion that some have become deranged. For example, one of Henry Ford’s heirs attacked a Catholic church near Detroit because it had a pro-life sign campaigning against the amendment.
