In the wake of former President Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election, the Harris Victory Fund—a joint fundraising committee authorized by the Harris campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and state Democratic parties—has announced that a portion of its donations will now be allocated toward a recount initiative. The shift, disclosed on the committee’s fundraising page, signals the campaign’s intention to pursue a close examination of votes in key states.
Trump clinched all seven battleground states, securing 312 electoral votes and reclaiming control of the White House. His margin of victory in several of these states was razor-thin, with Wisconsin and Michigan standing out. In Wisconsin, Trump edged out Vice President Kamala Harris by less than one percentage point, while in Michigan, he prevailed by a margin of less than two points.
The recount effort reflects the Harris campaign’s response to these narrow losses in critical states, writes USA Today.
The fundraising page says that the “first $41,300/$15,000 from a person/multicandidate committee (“PAC”) will be allocated to the DNC. The next $3,300/$5,000 from a person/PAC will be allocated to Harris for President’s Recount Account.”
It doesn’t include additional details on when the recount effort will take place and who will lead the effort.
Harris officially conceded the race to Trump in a speech she gave at Howard University the day after Election Day, saying that the nation must accept the election results.
“While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign,” she said. “We will continue to wage this fight in the voting booth, in the courts and in the public square, and we will also wage it in quieter ways, in how we live our lives, by treating one another with kindness and respect.”
Others have claimed that the move serves simply as a way to grift a few more dollars from panicked Democrats across the country in light of the Harris campaign finding itself in massive debt.
The New York Post explained that “the failed Democratic presidential hopeful is asking for cash for the account through the fundraising platform ActBlue as vendors worry her campaign won’t pay them for services already rendered.
The campaign only revealed that the hat-in-hand push is partly to collect dough for down-ballot Democrats — but the money can be used to pay off election-related expenses, too.
‘With a handful of key Senate and House races still too close to call, we are keeping our organizers and volunteers on the ground in those states to see the election across the finish line,’ the campaign’s website says.
‘If you are able, please donate to the Harris Fight Fund today to ensure we have the resources to elect Democrats down the ticket ready to hold the Trump administration accountable.’”
The Harris campaign has been ridiculed over the past week for how it blew through a billion dollars in three months by handing out cash to wealthy celebrities. For example, the vice president’s campaign paid Oprah Winfrey a million dollars to host a “town hall” for Harris in October.
Fox News noted that “Winfrey also appeared at Harris’ final rally in Philadelphia on the eve of Election Day, with the talk-show star offering a rare endorsement of a presidential candidate.
‘We’re voting for values and integrity,’ Winfrey said at the rally. “We’re voting for healing over hate.'”

Oprah stands among the wealthiest women globally, having built an empire that spans media, entertainment, and philanthropy. Starting her career in local television, Winfrey rose to fame with The Oprah Winfrey Show, which ran for 25 years and became one of the most influential talk shows in history. Her success on screen expanded into ventures like the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), a stake in Weight Watchers, and a lucrative partnership with Apple TV+, and she is estimated to be worth over three billion dollars.
