By During an August 15 segment of “CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip,” Vanderbilt University professor Michael Eric Dyson attacked South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace for mispronouncing Vice President Kamala Harris’s first name, implying that she was a racist.
During a hearing on Thursday of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing, Mace pushed back against Democrats’ outrage over the issue, pointing out that several prominent figures from their own party have reportedly done the same.

The Daily Caller writes that the congresswoman laid into the Vanderbilt professor, showing how much of the “woke” complaints are really just an act.
“My colleagues across the aisle said that those that can not pronounce Kamala’s name correctly are elementary aged children. I would like to enter into the record an article by Newsweek saying Bill Clinton pronounces Kamala Harris name wrong during [his] DNC speech,” Mace said.
“Bill Clinton along with Al Sharpton, rapper Lil John — let’s not forget that Joe Biden can’t say her name right, neither can Supreme Court Justice Sonya Sotomayor,” Mace continued. “And this morning on ‘Morning Joe,’ Joan Baez called her a camel. So I don’t want to hear it. It’s fake outrage.”
The lawmaker then continued as she held up alleged screenshots of text messages sent to her from Dyson, stating he had called her “gorgeous” after claiming she parroted white supremacist language.
“I would like to also enter into the record a screenshot of a text message I received from the esteemed professor from Vanderbilt Michael Eric Dyson after my CNN interview, begged me for photos. In this text, he says, after calling me racist on CNN, ‘shh don’t tell anybody, we look good together.’ And sent me a kissy emoji,” Mace said.
Mace recently made news when The House of Representatives passed her bill on to require the federal government to deport illegal immigrants who have a criminal history involving domestic violence and sex offenses.
The Washington Examiner noted that “The Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, introduced by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), passed the lower chamber 266 to 158, with 51 Democrats joining all Republicans to advance the measure. The legislation, if signed into law, would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act so that ‘aliens’ convicted of or who have committed sex offenses or domestic violence are “inadmissible and deportable.”
Mace, who has frequently spoken out against her party for its treatment of women, said in an op-ed to the South Carolina-based Post and Courier last week that she had “enough of weak-kneed politicians pointing at dubious data and making excuses for illegal immigrants who come into our country and rape and murder women and children.”
‘H.R.7909 is about common sense — a trait sorely lacking in Washington these days,’ Mace wrote. ‘This bill ensures predators who pose a threat and have been previously convicted of sexual assault, domestic violence and other heinous crimes are turned away or immediately deported.’
‘The legislation makes sure those who pose a threat are kicked out before they can cause more harm,’ the congresswoman continued. ‘It’s time to stop coddling criminals and start standing up for the innocent victims who deserve justice and families who deserve peace of mind.’”
Over 150 Democrats voted against the bill.
