By In politics, the other team gets to bat too. That’s something Democrats never seem to remember when they control power. Now, Speaker Kevin McCarthy appears ready to take some swings of his own that he controls the House of Representatives.
“During a press conference last month,” The Hill writes, “McCarthy said he supported the idea of more footage from the Jan. 6 attack being made public while accusing Democrats of politicizing the investigation. Two Republicans were seated on the select committee that was formed to probe events surrounding the riot, though both were critics of former President Trump.
“I think the public should see what has happened on that,’ McCarthy told reporters in January while discussing the footage.
‘We watched the politicization of this. I think the American public should actually see all what happened instead of a report that’s written for a political basis,’ the GOP Speaker added.”

Now he’s keeping his word and handed tens of thousands of hours of video to Fox News and Tucker Carlson, the Daily Caller reports.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy gave Fox News host and Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson exclusive access to 41,000 hours of footage from the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, Axios reported Monday, citing sources close to the speaker.
Carlson’s producers reportedly began reviewing the footage on Capitol Hill earlier in February, and his shows will start airing excerpts in coming weeks, according to Axios. Talks between Carlson’s show and McCarthy regarding the footage began in early February, the outlet reported.
“If there was ever a question that’s in the public’s interest to know, it’s what actually happened on January 6. By definition, this video will reveal it. It’s impossible for me to understand why any honest person would be bothered by that,” Carlson told Axios.
Carlson in 2021 released a documentary series about the Jan. 6 riot, alleging the attack was a false flag operation to frame Trump supporters.
In June of 2022, the House committee examining the riot released handpicked footage of the incident, hoping to score huge ratings for the Democrats, but it was mostly a dud.
NCP noted at the time: “Americans do not seem interested in the January 6 Committee because they already know what happened and have settled opinions about the event. The Washington Post reported that many viewers are tuned out to the hearings. “Others among more than a dozen voters interviewed — in coffee shops, stores and by phone — dismissed the hearing as “rubbish,” or simply did not watch…Asked about the hearings she looked momentarily confused. ‘The what?’ she asked.”
This is only shocking to liberals who were convinced the hearing would “grip the nation” the way the Watergate hearings did fifty years ago. The big difference, though, is that Richard Nixon was president in during the Watergate hearings. Donald Trump isn’t president today.
The hearing also shows that Democrats are more interested in obsessing over Donald Trump than focusing on the problems facing the country, and they can’t seem to grasp that life isn’t a zero-sum game. An overwhelming majority of Americans disapprove of mobbing the Capitol. It’s entirely possible to be horrified by Trump’s actions and think that the issues they elected Democrats to deal with, coming out of COVID, the economy, and returning to normalcy, are more critical to our future.”
Conservatives in the House are taking a victory lap at the news. Rep. Matt Gaetz, one of the 20 or so conservatives who initially held out against Kevin McCarthy’s bid for Speaker of the House, said that McCarthy’s actions were one of the concessions they received from the GOP leader.

At least five people died as a result of the insurrection. In a June 2022 column, Carlson characterized the riots as “an outbreak of mob violence, a forgettably minor outbreak by recent standards.” Carlson has repeatedly railed against the House panel investigating the insurrection and lawmakers’ role in the events. McCarthy became Speaker of the House last month after a historic vote that took 15 rounds thanks to a group of ultra-conservative Republican legislators who took issue with McCarthy’s comparatively moderate views. Carlson actually backed the pushback against McCarthy, calling the dissent “refreshing” and blasting McCarthy for being “ideologically agnostic,” Forbes said.
A major defamation suit recently revealed that Carlson does not think the 2020 election was stolen. The TV host wrote text messages calling Trump’s antics “absurd.”
Needless to say, expect more footage from the Capitol riot to hit the Fox News airways soon.
