A Florida man has been arrested after allegedly threatening the life of former President Donald Trump in a social media post—underscoring the dangerous climate of political hostility facing Trump as he campaigns to return to the White House.

Glen DeCicco of Jupiter, Florida, was taken into custody on Friday and charged with making written threats to kill, reported Fox News. According to local authorities, the investigation began after a tip about a disturbing Facebook post. Working with the U.S. Secret Service, investigators determined the post contained a direct threat against Trump.

DeCicco was arrested without incident following interviews with federal agents. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi emphasized that the agency takes such threats seriously. “Public tips are often where our work begins—keep reporting suspicious activity,” he said in a post on X.

The case marks the latest in a disturbing pattern: multiple threats have been made against Trump in recent months, even after two failed assassination attempts last year. Law enforcement officials say the risks remain high as Trump leads a political comeback and seeks to rein in what he and his supporters call an out-of-control federal bureaucracy.

Meanwhile, nationwide protests erupted on Saturday under the banner “Hands Off!”—a progressive pushback against Trump’s efforts to reduce the size and cost of the federal government. More than 500,000 people reportedly participated in rallies across all 50 states, including deep-red regions where Trump won overwhelmingly in 2024.

Organized by liberal groups like MoveOn and Indivisible, the protests targeted recent policy changes aimed at cutting wasteful spending and restoring efficiency to bloated federal agencies. Critics of the administration claim these changes are “dismantling” social services—but supporters argue that long-overdue reforms are necessary to stop government overreach and reduce taxpayer burdens.

The leftwing protests, as they often do, devolved into threats to assassinate Trump as the one in New York did.

So did the one in Michigan, where liberal supporters echoed Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s apparent call for assassinating Trump in 2020.

Trump survived an assassination attempt last July after being shot in Pennsylvania. Later in the campaign, a pro-Ukraine, Democratic donor and would-be assassin was caught stalking the president as he golfed, only being discovered shortly before the president arrived at the tee.

Regarding the protests, the White House responded by reaffirming its commitment to protect core programs like Social Security and Medicare for eligible Americans—while blasting Democrats for spreading misinformation and fear. President Trump did not directly comment on the protests but focused his social media posts on foreign policy and trade, highlighting what he called decades of unfair treatment of the United States by other nations.

Elon Musk, who now oversees the Department of Government Efficiency, criticized the demonstrations as “paid protests” and echoed concerns that outside money was fueling unrest. “They will be [held accountable],” he wrote, reposting a call for legal consequences.

Despite claims that the protests represent a national consensus, they’ve drawn criticism for being highly partisan, with many attendees waving anti-Trump signs and advancing social agendas that go far beyond the original budget concerns. Protesters voiced opposition to policies on immigration enforcement, transgender rights, and education reform—issues where the administration has taken bold stands that resonate with many working- and middle-class Americans.

As Trump continues to face personal threats while pushing forward with his reform agenda, his supporters argue that the real threat to democracy isn’t coming from Washington—but from activist groups and entrenched bureaucracies unwilling to accept change.
