DNC Turmoil Over David Hogg’s PAC Fundraising Strategies

In a bombshell report, it looks like it only took two weeks as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee for David Hogg to turn it into a grift. The young anti-gun activist is facing new criticism from party insiders who have accused him of exploiting DNC resources to benefit his own political action committee rather than strengthening the party’s fundraising efforts.

Hogg, 24, has been actively soliciting donations for Leaders We Deserve, the PAC he co-founded in 2023, by using DNC contact lists to distribute fundraising messages, according to an investigation by The New York Post.

One such message read:

“David Hogg here: I was just elected DNC Vice Chair! This is a huge win for our movement to make the Democratic Party more reflective of our base: youthful, energetic, and ready to win,” reads one of eight texts he sent out to the DNC’s vast database of phone numbers.

Hogg co-founded “Leaders We Deserve” in August 2023 with the stated goal of electing young progressives to Congress and state legislatures across the country. It also provided him a six-figure income job right out of college, The Post reported.

Since the PAC was founded, Hogg has pocketed more than $175,000, records show, with more than $20,000 in salary payments coming in December alone, the most recent month for which public data is available.

While it’s not officially against the rules, personal PAC fundraising — instead of fundraising for the DNC — has rubbed some party brass the wrong way.

It’s especially important for all Democratic national officials to focus on raising support for the party and not using their position to raise money for themselves or their personal political PACS,” groused a second senior Democratic Party official. “It’s a stunning lack of judgment that is concerning to many people.”

Liberals have not responded well to the news of Hogg’s ascent to party leadership.

Hogg first gained national prominence as a survivor of the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and has been a vocal advocate for leftwing policies, including gun reform, police abolition, and the dismantling of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. His swift rise to a senior DNC position has sparked skepticism among some party members, who question whether his limited experience makes him more of a liability than an asset.

Hogg received a major boost earlier in the year when former vice presidential candidate Tim Walz backed his campaign for party leadership.

“David Hogg represents the kind of bold, dynamic, and courageous leadership the Democratic Party urgently needs,” Walz said in a statement. “Having campaigned alongside David across the country, I’ve seen his exceptional ability to connect with people and effectively communicate the strengths and values of our party.”

Walz further highlighted Hogg’s determination and readiness to address pressing issues, emphasizing the need for leaders who inspire action. “David’s thoughtfulness, energy, and vision are exactly what our party needs right now. I am thrilled to support his leadership and look forward to working with him as he brings his ideas to the forefront,” he added.

When contacted for comment about his grift, Hogg initially declined, briefly telling reporters, “I’m not doing any interviews,” before ending the call. A spokesperson later responded via email, asserting that Hogg has raised funds for the DNC both before and after becoming Vice Chair.

Despite attempts to downplay the controversy, questions about Hogg’s fundraising tactics and their impact on party unity remain unresolved. The Democratic Party doesn’t appear to be in great hands.
