Former Democratic nominee for vice president, Tim Walz, made a surprise endorsement for a leadership role at the Democratic National Committee on Tuesday. The Minnesota governor tapped David Hogg for the role of vice chair of the party. Walz commended the young activist’s visionary leadership and bold approach, calling Hogg a vital voice for the future of the Democratic Party.
Hogg, whose claim to fame is that he attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and on when the school experienced a shooting, co-founded the March for Our Lives anti-gun movement and has since emerged as a prominent advocate for progressive causes.
“David Hogg represents the kind of bold, dynamic, and courageous leadership the Democratic Party urgently needs,” Walz said in a statement. “Having campaigned alongside David across the country, I’ve seen his exceptional ability to connect with people and effectively communicate the strengths and values of our party.”
David Hogg represents exactly the kind of bold, dynamic, and courageous leadership our party needs right now. He has a unique ability to connect with the American people and to speak to the strengths of our party.

Walz further highlighted Hogg’s determination and readiness to address pressing issues, emphasizing the need for leaders who inspire action. “David’s thoughtfulness, energy, and vision are exactly what our party needs right now. I am thrilled to support his leadership and look forward to working with him as he brings his ideas to the forefront,” he added.
Hogg’s candidacy has gained momentum, with growing support from influential Democrats. Earlier this week, Representative Maxwell Frost, a Florida Democrat and youngest member of Congress, also endorsed Hogg. Frost praised Hogg’s unwavering commitment to tackling gun violence, describing him as a leader who listens, acts, and advocates tirelessly for change.
In response to Walz’s endorsement, Hogg expressed his appreciation and respect for the governor. “Governor Walz embodies what it means to serve with integrity and compassion. He’s not only a dedicated public servant but also a genuinely good person. The Democratic Party is lucky to have him as a leader,” Hogg told The Hill.
Governor Walz also extended his support to Minnesota Democratic Party Chair Ken Martin in his bid for the top spot at the DNC.
The current leadership at the DNC has come under fire after its leader, Jaime Harrison, urged the party to double down on identity politics and has left the party in financial trouble after Kamala Harris burned through a billion dollars in only a few months to come up short against Donald Trump.
The Walz endorsement was welcomed by conservatives. For example, The Daily Caller wrote, “Marxist Mr. Magoo and failed vice presidential candidate Tim Walz made the dumbest political endorsement of his sputtering career on Friday.
Anti-Second Amendment activist David Hogg previously announced his bid to run for the Democratic National Committee’s vice chairman in December, saying he would claw back young Americans who ditched his party and voted Republican in 2024. On Friday, Walz chimed in with a ringing endorsement, describing Hogg as “exactly the kind of bold … leadership” their party desperately needs.
Walz is famous for a lot of things, chiefly among them his inability to properly load a shotgun. He is also well known for being a bit cringe, and a bit of a goober. In his attempt to court young male voters in the eleventh hour of his campaign with Kamala Harris, he failed miserably.
So it should come as no surprise Walz is endorsing Hogg, perhaps the only person in politics who’s as much of a goober as him.”
