Former Washington Post Star Appears To Double Down On Violence

The fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside the Hilton Hotel on Wednesday has made some leftists completely lose their minds, including professors and journalists. Some have even gone as far as rationalizing the murder, blaming America’s free market healthcare system.

Thompson, 50, was shot at close range, and the suspect remains at large. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Among the most radical reactions, however, came from former Washington Post star Taylor Lorenz, a liberal radically obsessed with COVID. The former social media reported is facing significant backlash for comments she posted that appeared to be a celebration and threat to other health insurance executives shortly after the incident.

Her controversial remark, “And people wonder why we want these executives dead,” appeared to channel public anger over insurance industry practices, including Blue Cross Blue Shield’s contentious policy changes regarding anesthesia coverage. Critics accused Lorenz of celebrating Thompson’s death and inciting violence, though she later defended her remarks as a reflection of widespread public discontent with the healthcare system.

“People have very justified hatred toward insurance company CEOs because these executives are responsible for an unfathomable amount of death and suffering,” Lorenz wrote in a follow-up post. She emphasized that her intent was to spotlight systemic issues rather than to condone violence.

Lorenz also shared posts from others, some of which echoed her sentiments. One post dismissed expressions of sympathy for Thompson, stating, “Every life is precious’ stuff about a healthcare CEO whose company is noted for denying coverage is pretty silly.” Another criticized policies that deny life-saving treatments, remarking, “Murder is wrong, no matter how it’s done.”

Shortly after seeming to justify the murder, Lorenz further called attention to Blue Cross Blue Shield CEO Kim Keck, posting a picture and personal details and urging the public to hold executives accountable through “peaceful letter-writing campaigns.” She argued that such figures bear direct responsibility for decisions that “ruthlessly murder thousands of innocent Americans by denying coverage.”

After receiving criticism, Lorenz only doubled down on calling for executives to be murdered.

Lorenz has been a prominent liberal voice in media for years, earning recognition for her reporting on the intersection of technology, internet culture, and society. She rose to prominence with her work at outlets like The Washington Post and The New York Times, where she became a major media figure. Her reporting often broke ground in covering how social media platforms shape public discourse and influence everyday life, earning her accolades such as being named to Fortune’s “40 Under 40” in Media and Adweek’s “Most Influential People in Media.” Lorenz’s insightful and often “provocative” reporting has made her both a celebrated and polarizing figure in the evolving media landscape

This isn’t the first time that Lorenz has used her perch to attach her ideological opponents and threaten their lives. In 2023, she revealed the name and address of the famous “Libs of Tik Tok” Twitter handle, which led to her receiving threats.

After receiving criticism, she fled to MSNBC and began crying on air about “bullying.”

That same year the Biden administration doled out over $5 million to “create a program that will provide psychological care to journalists who believe they are the targets of “misinformation-driven harassment campaigns,” explained The Daily Caller.

Earlier in the year, Lorenz left The Washington Post after her bosses “lost faith” in her, according to reports.
