The thing to remember is that the establishment in Washington will never accept Donald Trump or his supporters, and now there’s advertising all over the city to prove it. A poster near the U.S. Capitol has sparked controversy for its portrayal of supporters of former President Donald Trump, many who will be coming to the nation’s capital to celebrate the inauguration of the 47th president next month.
The ad featured a red “no” symbol over an image of a person wearing a MAGA hat and holding a book labeled Project 2025, accompanied by the slogan “Keep DC trash free.” The inclusion of logos from the District of Columbia Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Mayor’s Office of the Clean City program gave the impression of official endorsement, intensifying public backlash.
This is an ad in Washington, DC that appears to be paid for by the DC government.

In response, the District Department of Transportation quickly issued a statement on social media, clarifying that the ad was not created, funded, or authorized by the DC government, according to The New York Post. DDOT assured the public that teams were actively working to remove the ad and encouraged residents to report any similar instances via the city’s 311 system. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office echoed this response but offered no further comment.
This incident is part of a larger trend of unauthorized political messaging infiltrating public spaces under the guise of official campaigns. A similar episode occurred in Philadelphia last year when fake ads implied that the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. An artist eventually claimed responsibility, stating he was unaware of how the ads ended up in public transit spaces.
Can’t believe I almost forgot this similar gem: did we ever get to the bottom of how fake Eagles ads endorsing Kamala were professionally installed at Philly bus stations magically without knowledge of the Eagles or SEPTA??? Supposedly ample CCTV footage didn’t have any hints? https://t.co/JCSrWq4fAQ pic.twitter.com/Pldd15cJgY

While the creator of the Washington ad remains unknown, the situation reflects a growing pattern of provocative political messaging using public advertising spaces as platforms. The timing of the ad adds to its significance, emerging amid escalating political tensions leading up to the 2024 presidential election. Both major political parties have been accused of inflammatory rhetoric, including an instance earlier this year when President Joe Biden faced criticism for remarks interpreted as dismissive toward Trump supporters. Though the White House later clarified Biden’s comments, the fallout contributed to an already polarized atmosphere.
Authorities in Washington are now investigating how the ad was installed and are taking measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Trump inauguration has caused some Democrats to lose their minds. Some have even been celebrating the death of former President Jimmy Carter because America will officially be in mourning during Trump’s second swearing-in, writes The Daily Mail.
“Outspoken MAGA critics and Democrat voters have quipped that the half mast flags during such a pivotal moment are Carter’s parting gift to Trump after their longstanding feud.
‘I’m so sad for this great man’s passing but this is going to p**s off the orange clown so much and I’ve convinced myself this was Jimmy’s plan the whole time,’ one person wrote.
Another added: ‘Can’t help but smile knowing flags will be at half mast during Trump’s Inauguration to honor Jimmy Carter, one of the most decent humans to walk the earth and the very opposite of who’s to come.’
‘His parting gift: US flags will be at half mast on all federal buildings on Trump’s Inauguration Day.’

Supporters described the timing as a ‘better, unintended consequence’ of Carter’s death.”
Standard protocol in the United States is that all flags should be flown at half mast at federal buildings for 30 days following the death of a former president.
