One of the most prominent liberals in the country appears to be going through a mental breakdown following Donald Trump’s victory. Jennifer Rubin, a columnist for The Washington Post, is facing significant backlash after making an unhinged rant on her podcast, Jen Rubin’s Green Room. During a discussion on Democratic messaging strategies, Rubin claimed that Republicans “want to kill your kids,” a statement that has ignited outrage among conservatives and sparked broader debates about her rhetoric.

The remark, which has since gone viral, was part of Rubin’s argument about the need for concise and impactful political messaging. “What do I mean by pithy? How about this: Republicans want to kill your kids. It’s actually true,” she stated. Rubin elaborated by citing Republican positions on key issues, including opposition to vaccinations, resistance to medical research, and policies that make semiautomatic weapons accessible to minors. She criticized laws that allow such access, arguing they directly contribute to school shootings. “If you’re going to allow minors and all sorts of people to get semiautomatic weapons — which they use to shoot up schools — well then, you are responsible for kids’ health and death,” she said.

The comments, first highlighted by The New York Post, triggered a firestorm on social media. Conservative commentator Robby Starbuck took to X, formerly Twitter, to demand Rubin’s firing, tagging The Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos in his post. “She should be fired over this if there’s any sanity left in the world,” Starbuck wrote. Other critics accused Rubin of engaging in extreme partisan rhetoric, with some suggesting she suffers from “Trump derangement syndrome,” a term used to describe perceived irrational hostility toward former President Donald Trump.

Fox News noted that Rubin, a former conservative writer who has infamously been advocating on behalf of Democrats in the Trump era, has been outspoken this week about her outrage towards MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, calling it “disgusting” on social media. Rubin is notably an MSNBC contributor.

She even fueled a growing boycott of her network colleagues.

“The market works great. You can stop watching Morning Joe anytime,” Rubin wrote on social media Monday evening.

She then followed, “On MJ: If you don’t appreciate the audience you have, betray that audience and lose their trust you are [going] to lose lots of them. I have seen this movie.”

This latest controversy follows a notable policy change at The Washington Post. Last month, Jeff Bezos announced that the paper would no longer endorse candidates in the 2024 presidential election, a departure from its longstanding tradition. Rubin, like many of her liberal colleagues, publicly condemned the decision, labeling Bezos’s explanation as “bulls–t” and accusing him of prioritizing corporate interests over journalistic integrity.

It’s not just liberals at the nation’s biggest political newspaper who have been upset with what’s been going on at The Washington Post. Right before the election, conservative writer and radio host Hugh Hewitt quit his position at the paper on during an airing of “Post Live.”

Bezos, the billionaire owner of WaPo, wrote that he’s worried about his newspaper losing credibility. What happens with Rubin’s position at The Washington Post after her insane ranting will likely show whether he meant it.
