Liberals cannot abide anyone who recognizes the reality of biological gender and the roles it plays in sports. Representative Seth Moulton, a Democrat from Massachusetts, is facing significant political fallout following controversial comments about transgender youth in sports, igniting criticism from Democratic Party leaders and LGBTQ advocates.

The congressman had the audacity to tell The New York Times that “Democrats spend way too much time trying not to offend anyone rather than being brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face,” Mr. Moulton said. “I have two little girls, I don’t want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat I’m supposed to be afraid to say that.”

The remarks, which surfaced in the aftermath of Democratic losses in the 2024 elections, have intensified scrutiny of Moulton’s record and raised the prospect of a primary challenge in his bid for re-election in Massachusetts’ 6th Congressional District.

Despite the criticism, Moulton defended his position, asserting that he was voicing concerns shared by many voters. He claimed to have received support from parents and members of the LGBTQ community who thanked him for addressing an issue they believe is polarizing but under-discussed. He also argued that the current trajectory of the transgender movement could jeopardize progress in LGBTQ rights, further complicating the party’s messaging.

The controversy has opened the door for potential challengers in his district, according to Politico.

“Dan Koh, a former Andover selectman who narrowly lost the race for the open seat in the neighboring 3rd District in 2018, has been making — and fielding — calls about a possible campaign against Moulton, according to a person granted anonymity to discuss the conversations.

Koh served as chief of staff to former Boston Mayor Marty Walsh. He followed his then-boss to Washington when President Joe Biden plucked Walsh from City Hall to lead his Labor department, and he stuck around when Walsh gave up his Cabinet slot to head the NHL Players’ Association.

He currently works as deputy director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs — a position with an expiration date as Donald Trump prepares to return to the White House next year. And despite working in Washington, he still owns a home in Andover, which was swept into Moulton’s district as a result of redistricting in 2021. But Koh, who didn’t respond to calls yesterday, isn’t the only name kicking around.”

Democratic strategists believe Moulton’s position is increasingly tenuous, citing not only the controversy but also his history of challenging party leadership and his unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign. Doug Rubin, a Democratic consultant, told The Washington Examiner that Moulton’s actions over the years could alienate voters and provide an opportunity for a credible opponent. “I believe that he is vulnerable, and it’s not just because of the recent comments,” Rubin observed. “All of those things could rub voters the wrong way.”
