In a shocking report, a retired senior Pentagon official has confirmed to The Daily Mail that UFO “mother ships” have been spotted releasing swarms of smaller craft over US military bases, adding mystery to recent unexplained airspace intrusions. These revelations coincide with the release of 50 pages of Air Force records detailing provocative “drone” incursions over multiple security installations, described by one general as “Close Encounters at Langley.”

Over 17 nights last December, writes the newspaper, small UFOs—described as “noisy, fast-moving objects with flashing red, green, and white” lights—were repeatedly seen penetrating restricted airspace above Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. These encounters have baffled investigators, including local police, NASA analysts, and the Air Force, all of whom have been unable to determine the origin of the craft.

Chris Mellon, a former senior Pentagon official, told outlet that these incidents reflect a broader pattern of unexplained aerial activity affecting several national security sites. He emphasized the disturbing fact that signal-jamming devices have been ineffective and that the craft appear to deliberately expose themselves. “In some cases, it is clear they want to be seen, as if taunting us,” Mellon stated.

Mellon, who previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, also revealed that similar incidents have occurred at Palmdale, California, home to Lockheed Martin’s classified Skunk Works facility. Despite ongoing investigations, including by Air Combat Command at Langley, military officials remain stumped by these persistent airspace violations.

This isn’t the first time that unidentified objects have been considered threats to national security. The Wall Street Journal noted earlier in the week that General Mark Kelly, who oversees Air Combat Command, warned that these unidentified craft could pose a serious problems if similar incursions were to occur in highly sensitive areas.

“Kelly, a decorated senior commander at the base, got on a squadron rooftop to see for himself. He joined a handful of other officers responsible for a clutch of the nation’s most advanced jet fighters, including F-22 Raptors.

For several nights, military personnel had reported a mysterious breach of restricted airspace over a stretch of land that has one of the largest concentrations of national-security facilities in the U.S. The show usually starts 45 minutes to an hour after sunset, another senior leader told Kelly.

The first drone arrived shortly. Kelly, a career fighter pilot, estimated it was roughly 20 feet long and flying at more than 100 miles an hour, at an altitude of roughly 3,000 to 4,000 feet. Other drones followed, one by one, sounding in the distance like a parade of lawn mowers.

The drones headed south, across Chesapeake Bay, toward Norfolk, Va., and over an area that includes the home base for the Navy’s SEAL Team Six and Naval Station Norfolk, the world’s largest naval port.”

Officials told the newspaper that they remain unsure whether the drone fleet, which included up to a dozen or more in the following nights, was operated by resourceful hobbyists or hostile entities. Some speculated that Russia or China might have deployed the drones to gauge the response of U.S. forces.

Federal law prevents the military from shooting down drones near domestic military bases unless they present an immediate threat. Aerial surveillance doesn’t meet that threshold, though some lawmakers are pushing to expand the military’s authority in such situations.

Despite extensive research and inquiries, officials and analysts remain puzzled, with no clear explanation in sight. As the investigation continues, the sightings at Langley and elsewhere remain one of the most perplexing national security mysteries in recent memory.
