Progressive Book: Kamala Can’t Handle Being President

A book released by left wing progressives and focused on progressive causes earlier in the year has reared its head again as Kamala Harris has risen to the top of the Democratic ticket.

In the book, White House aides say that Harris struggles with the basics of politics, like establishing a political agenda, and relies almost entirely on her often goofy “personal charm.”

Now, writes The Daily Caller, as Harris finds herself locked in a tight presidential race against Donald Trump, the book has resurfaced an paints an ugly picture of the vice president’s lacking competence.

As recently as the summer of 2023, a cavalcade of Democratic party superstars like California Gov. Gavin Newsom were brandishing their leadership credentials as calls grew for Biden to step aside. Once that time passed, the left-wing whisper machine turned on Harris and her historically abysmal favorability numbers.

Enter “The Truce: Progressives, Centrists, and the Future of the Democratic Party,” which dropped in January. That was just enough time for the left to replace Kamala Harris and, one would think, supplied them with enough ammunition to do it.

“It was rotten from the start,” a top aide from her 2020 campaign noted. “A lot of us, at least folks that I was friends with on the campaign, all realized that: ‘Yeah, this person should not be president of the United States,’ the aide told the authors.

The book, authored by Hunter Walker and Luppe B. Luppen, was written and published long before Harris was coronated as the heir apparent of the Democratic party’s presidential ticket.

The scathing quotes from insiders of her failed 2020 campaign painted a picture of Harris as a vapid and ineffectual leader who offers no clear picture of who she is politically or how she would govern as the president.

This isn’t the first time that Kamala Harris’s dysfunction has made the front pages.

In Chris Whipple’s book “The Fight of His Life,” the vice presidency of Kamala Harris is depicted as being plagued by dysfunction and a lack of preparedness, according to accounts from former staffers. These ex-employees detailed significant turmoil and morale problems within her team, which Harris reportedly refused to address when questioned by Whipple during his research. The book reveals that Harris often engaged in what one former aide described as “really unnecessary gamesmanship” with her subordinates, leading to a strained and difficult working environment.

The ex-staffer further elaborated that Harris frequently avoided the kind of thorough preparation required for addressing serious policy matters in public. When things did not go as she expected, she would reportedly react with frustration and anger. This lack of readiness and her reliance on what the former aide termed “magical thinking” were highlighted as consistent issues throughout her career. The former Harris aide expressed concern that these traits could severely inhibit the effectiveness of any administration she might lead, indicating that these challenges are not new but deeply ingrained in her leadership style.

One issue that has plagued Harris is immigration. Whipple noted that aides told him that White House aides have never seen the Joe Biden so angry as was over the pouring of illegal immigrants into the country from Mexico during his first six months of office.

The author writes, “illegal immigrants kept arriving. And Biden was furious,” Whipple wrote, according to a copy of the book obtained by The Hill. ‘From all over the West Wing, you could hear the president cursing, dropping f-bombs (he’d always apologize when women were present).’

‘It was just the frustration of a lack of solutions,’ a senior adviser said, according to Whipple. ‘It’s like, ‘how would you feel if you were me and these were the solutions you had?’ It’s the weight of the presidency, right?’”

At the time, Biden had tasked his vice president with tackling the causes of the crisis, which only led to harsher criticism of her from the Oval Office. Harris received tough reviews when she visited Guatemala and Mexico in June 2021, and she was bashed for an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt, during which she said, ‘I haven’t been to Europe’ when he pointed out that she hadn’t visited the border.”
