Secret Service Under Scrutiny Following Massive ‘Failure’

Otto Von Bismark, the nineteenth-century leader of Germany, once remarked that “God has a special providence for fools, drunkards, and the United States of America.”

That statement could not seem more true following Saturday’s shooting of former President Donald Trump by a Biden supporter.

The Daily Caller writes that two security experts reviewed the details of the shooting, where one innocent bystander was killed, labeling it a total failure.

Former United States Secret Service agents Evy Poumpouras and Dan Bongino separately reviewed potential security failures that appeared to lead to an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a Saturday campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“This is obviously an abysmal failure, nobody should ever try to cover for this,” Dan Bongino, an agent formerly assigned to protect Presidents Bush and Obama and host of “The Dan Bongino Show,” said on his show Sunday. “I have a lot of loyalty to my colleagues at the Secret Service. Their motto is ‘Worthy of Trust and Confidence.’ However, this is an abysmal failure, there’s no excusing that at this point.”

Bongino also questioned how the shooter bypassed the magnetometers, devices designed to detect weapons and metal.

Evy Poumpouras, an agent assigned to protect former President Obama and the first lady and host of “Spy Games,” said she suspects the shooter didn’t take position until after Trump took the stage. She also noted the shooter, who the FBI identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, appeared to be camouflaged in clothing which matched the color of the roof he was positioned on, she told NBC’s “Today” on Sunday morning.

Both former agents also pointed out the steel armor in front of the podium, which the Secret Service immediately dragged Trump down behind following the shooting, may have saved his life.

The director of the Secret Service, Kimberly A. Cheatle, continues to face resignation calls following the shooting of the presidential frontrunner. She has previously been criticized for promoting DEI initiatives at the expense of hiring the best people to protect presidential figures and their families.

Trump’s Secret Service detail was lessened because the agency decided to send more agents to protect First Lady Jill Biden who was campaigning in the same state.

Donald Trump is only alive because he turned his head as the bullets flew at him.

The Trump campaign has previously complained about the Secret Service protection he is supposed to receive and the former president has said he’s thankful to still be alive.

In May, ABC News reported that the campaign sent “a letter to U.S. Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle, demanding she fix a ‘critical flaw’ in the security perimeter of this summer’s Republican National Convention, claiming that attendees’ safety is at risk as protesters plan to descend on the area.

The letter, obtained first by ABC News, comes following multiple attempts from GOP congressional lawmakers, including Speaker Mike Johnson, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Sen. Ron Johnson and Sen. Rick Scott. They requested to meet with Secret Service and RNC leaders to discuss safety and security at the convention as protester make plans to demonstrate.

The crux of the request from the Trump campaign is they would like the Secret Service to create a cushion area — a one-block adjustment — between the RNC facilities and the designated protest areas.”

Biden has previously denied Secret Service protection requests from his presidential rivals.

Earlier Sunday afternoon, the president unwittingly showed that he may not be up to leading the United States through this crisis. During a Sunday afternoon speech, Biden looked frail and appeared to have a problem with his arm as he moved away from the podium. He has announced an independent investigation into the shooting.

Biden announced that he would address the nation from the Oval Office at 8:00 PM Eastern Time on Sunday evening.

Trump has taken being shot in stride. He was seen golfing today and even joked about the failed assassination

.

He has called for his supporters to help the victims who were killed and injured at the event.
