AOC Looks To Impeach Alito And Thomas

Over the past month or so, Democrats have engaged in various conspiracy theories ranging from policy papers produced by The Heritage Foundation being a secret plot against America to arguing that a recent Supreme Court ruling that limits a president’s authority to prosecute his predecessors will lead to a dictatorship.

As it looks more and more like they are facing oblivion in November, Democrats have become nuttier and nuttier as of late, and there’s nothing that drives leftwingers more insane than the conservatives on the Supreme Court, particularly Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas.

On Wednesday, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez decided to make a move against those menacing conservatives and filed an impeachment resolution to remove the two most conservative members from the Supreme Court.

The New York congresswoman believes that Thomas should be impeached for not disclosing gifts he wasn’t obligated to disclose and Alito should be impeached because he flew a flag designed by George Washington during the American Revolution at his house, according to The Washington Examiner.

“Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito’s pattern of refusal to recuse from consequential matters before the court in which they hold widely documented financial and personal entanglements constitutes a grave threat to American rule of law, the integrity of our democracy, and one of the clearest cases for which the tool of impeachment was designed,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a release.

The first impeachment resolution regarding Thomas accuses him of failing to disclose gifts and income, refusing to recuse himself from matters related to his spouse’s legal interest in cases before the court, and refusing to recuse himself from matters related to his spouse’s financial interest in cases before the court.

Alito faces accusations of refusing to recuse from cases before the court “in which he had a personal bias or prejudice against a party,” and failure to disclose gifts and income in his impeachment resolution.

Alito refused to recuse himself from cases involving Trump and Jan. 6, 2021, defendants over an upside-down flag in 2021 and an “Appeal to Heaven” flag outside his New Jersey beach home, arguing that his wife had legal rights to fly the flag.

On her congressional website, Ocasio-Cortez explained her reasoning: “The unchecked corruption crisis on the Supreme Court has now spiraled into a Constitutional crisis threatening American democracy writ large. Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito’s pattern of refusal to recuse from consequential matters before the court in which they hold widely documented financial and personal entanglements constitutes a grave threat to American rule of law, the integrity of our democracy, and one of the clearest cases for which the tool of impeachment was designed.

The Constitution of the United States explicitly outlines a higher standard of conduct for the judiciary to meet, far surpassing its existing bars on treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors for all civil officers: the standard of Good Behavior. Judicial ethics and rules, to which even the lowest level judges are held, make those standards clear. The lifetime appointments of Supreme Court justices make enforcement of these standards a solemn responsibility for the protection of our democracy.

The New York congresswoman had previously promised to file impeachment charges against the two justices, launching into a conspiratorial tirade earlier in the month in which she claimed that “the Supreme Court has become consumed by a corruption crisis beyond its control” and “represents an assault on American democracy.”

Impeaching a Supreme Court justice is has been an extraordinarily rare event in American history. Only one Supreme Court justice, Samuel Chase, has been impeached, in 1804, for allegedly allowing his political bias to influence his rulings. However, he was acquitted by the Senate. Another notable case involved Justice Abe Fortas, who faced impeachment threats in 1969 over financial improprieties, leading to his resignation.
