By House Republicans have announced that they believe Hunter Biden “directly implicated” his father in a fraudulent bond scheme.
James Comer and Jim Jordan, the two leaders of the Biden impeachment investigation, are urging the Securities and Exchange Commission to provide additional details on its investigation into Hunter Biden’s business associates and affiliated entities into a plan to defraud Native Americans in 2016.
The National Review reports that it appears Joe Biden’s name was brought up by his son when the SEC came calling and the agency took effort to hide his connection to the plot.
In 2016, the SEC subpoenaed Hunter Biden and Rosemont Seneca Bohai, a business entity linked to Biden, during its investigation into a tribal bond-issuance scheme, which resulted in criminal charges for several individuals, including Devon Archer and Jason Galanis, two former business partners of Hunter Biden’s.
Galanis and Archer have testified for the impeachment inquiry and described their dealings with Hunter Biden and the extent of his father’s apparent involvement. The dealings described in their testimony were unrelated to the bond-issuance scheme.
“The confidential nature of this investigation is very important to our client and it would be unfair, not just to our client, but also to his father, the Vice President of the United States, if his involvement in an SEC investigation and parallel criminal probe were to become the subject of any media attention,” Biden’s attorneys wrote, according to the letter. The statement from Biden’s attorneys is referenced in House Republicans’s criminal referral.
The SEC issued a press release in May 2016 naming Galanis, Archer, and other businessmen announcing charges as part of the bond scheme. Hunter Biden was not mentioned. Galanis and Archer were found guilty in 2018 of defrauding a Native American tribe to the tune of $60 million by issuing and selling the tribe fraudulent bonds. Galanis is serving a lengthy prison sentence for his role in the scheme and Archer is appealing his sentence of 12 months and one day.
Hunter’s move apparently worked. Despite his pals being charged, the son of the then vice president got off scot free.

As part of the ongoing impeachment inquiry, Comer and Jordan are demanding all documents and communications between the SEC and the White House, including the Office of the Vice President and all documents provided by Rosemont Seneca, Archer, and Hunter Biden in the SEC investigation. Â
Fox News reported that “they also are demanding the SEC’s “justification for seeking documents from Hunter Biden” in the matter; all internal documents and communications regarding Hunter Biden’s response; and any internal ethics opinions rendered by the SEC regarding Hunter Biden or then-Vice President Biden.
Comer and Jordan are also asking the SEC to make Tejal D. Shah, a former staff attorney who led the investigation who now serves as a principal adviser, appear for questioning by the committees in the form of a transcribed interview.”
“In short, the records sought by this request are critical to the impeachment inquiry,” they wrote in a letter to the SEC Chairman Gary Gensler.
This isn’t the first time that the impeachment inquiry has examined the president’s family members and found them wanting. Earlier in the month, Congress recommended to the Department of Justice that the president’s brother, James Biden, along with Hunter, be investigated for lying to Congress during their hourslong sit-downs with lawmakers, claiming that it is part of a larger effort to hide the president’s involvement in the family’s overseas businesses.
“Congress cannot allow anyone, not even the president’s son or his brother, to stand in the way of its oversight of the executive branch or deny the American people the accountability they deserve,” Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo., chair of Ways & Means, said in a statement.
