By As Democrats look to imprison the GOP frontrunner for record-keeping violations, the party’s leaders have rallied together to defend Hunter Biden as he faces federal gun charges beginning today.
Biden initially believed his father’s Department of Justice would be offering him a ‘sweetheart deal‘, but a federal judge tossed the plea bargain. The son of the president was charged in Delaware federal court on three counts tied to the possession of a gun while using narcotics. He has been facing mounting money problems paying his lawyers after his ‘Sugar Brother’ announced that he could no longer foot his bills.
While most reports have tried to contrast Republican support for Trump during his trials with Democrats being stoic and not commenting on the case, the leader of the House Democrats has begun echoing Joe Biden’s earlier claims that Hunter Biden has never done anything wrong.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) defended President Biden for saying last year that his son Hunter Biden did “nothing wrong” in connection to the federal investigation related to tax and gun offenses, writes The Hill.
Jeffries backed up Biden on NBC’s “Meet the Press” for his comments regarding the investigation into his son last year when asked if it was “appropriate” for the president to weigh in on the case at the time.
“President Biden commented as a loving father, as I would hope any loving father would do. Hunter Biden, of course, is entitled, as was Donald Trump, to the presumption of innocence and to a trial by a jury of his peers,” Jeffries said.
“And this Justice Department is going to proceed in that fashion, present the facts and the law and then we’ll all have to wait for a determination that is made by a jury as to Hunter Biden’s guilt or innocence,” he added.
The trial is likely to “delve into details of his addiction and thrust the Biden family’s inner dynamics into public view as the president campaigns for re-election. The trial is expected to wrap up just weeks before Biden has his first debate with former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee,” explained The Wall Street Journal.
“For hours on Monday, the judge and lawyers questioned potential jurors, inquiring about their views on guns and their pre-existing knowledge of Hunter Biden’s case, among other topics. Several said they have bought guns or have family members who own firearms, and many discussed friends and family members who have struggled with addiction. By the afternoon lunch break, they appeared on pace to seat a jury by the end of the day, setting the stage for opening arguments on Tuesday.”
“As the President, I don’t and won’t comment on pending federal cases, but as a Dad, I have boundless love for my son, confidence in him, and respect for his strength. Our family has been through a lot together, and Jill and I are going to continue to be there for Hunter and our family with our love and support,” President Biden said in a statement.
The president has not distanced himself at all from his son. He even invited Hunter to a state dinner.
Jill Biden has also shown support and was spotted walking into the courthouse Monday morning. The First Lady is likely to see other family members if she goes to the trial every day. The prosecution witness list included his ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle; Lunden Roberts, an Arkansas woman with whom he had a daughter, and Beau Biden’s widow, Hallie Biden, whom Hunter also dated and received a huge payment from a Chinese energy company despite being a schoolteacher.
The president himself took time out of his busy schedule to pay a surprise visit to Hailee Biden’s house last week.
According to an underreported lawsuit, Hunter has been fighting a long legal battle with Buhle over an alleged $2.9 million alimony payment owed to her following their divorce.
Their separation agreement specified that the president’s son would pay the mother of his children $37,000 a month and 50% of any earnings over $875,000 annually, according to court documents obtained by Axios.
Buhle’s legal team has argued that Hunter did not pay what he owned in 2017 and 2018, years in which they allege he made over $2 million per year. The alimony stopped altogether when she filed sued, her attorneys contended to Axios.
Lunden Roberts has been writing a book about her time with Hunter Biden. Joe Biden, who has portrayed himself as a loving family man, refused to acknowledge her daughter, his granddaughter, for years, fearing that it could hurt him politically.
