Samuel Alito Tells Democrats He Won’t Recuse After Ridiculous ‘Controversy’

Over the past few weeks, liberals have once again been doing everything they can to undermine the Supreme Court, and it’s only been getting more ridiculous. A few weeks ago, the New York Times published a report that Samuel Alito’s wife flew an American flag upside down for a few days at their home to mock a neighbor who berated her. This was supposedly a symbol that she supported overturning the election on January 6, 2021, or something.

A week later, the press got ahold of an even bigger scandal: Sam Alito, a nerd about history, flew a flag designed by George Washington during the Revolutionary War that features a pine tree and John Locke’s words “An Appeal to Heaven” on it.

This, too, the left claimed, actually symbolized some kind of nefarious plot to enact Christian nationalism in the United States.

After the two coordinated stories came out, Democratic leader Dick Durbin demanded that Alito recuse himself from the upcoming Trump immunity case coming before the Supreme Court.

Today, Alito gave Durbin his answer: get bent.

The Daily Caller has reported that Justice Alito will not back down to the ridiculous demands made by Democrats.

After The New York Times published stories about an upside-down American flag briefly flown outside his Virginia home and an “Appeal to Heaven” flag flown for a time at their vacation home, which it claimed were both symbols associated with Trump supporters in January 2021, Democratic Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and Dick Durbin of Illinois urged Alito to recuse himself from cases relating to Jan. 6 or the 2020 election. They sent a letter to Chief Justice John Roberts requesting a meeting to discuss “additional steps to address the Supreme Court’s ethics crisis.”

“A reasonable person who is not motivated by political or ideological considerations or a desire to affect the outcome of Supreme Court cases would conclude that this event does not meet the applicable standard for recusal,” Alito responded Wednesday. “I am therefore duty-bound to reject your recusal request.”

The Supreme Court is expected to release decisions this month on Trump’s appeal of his bid to dismiss his election interference case based on presidential immunity and a case considering the scope of a statute used to charge Jan. 6 defendants.

Alito cited the section of the Supreme Court’s code of conduct governing disqualification, noting the incidents “do not meet the conditions for recusal.” Both flags were raised by his wife, he noted, a private citizen who “possesses the same First Amendment rights as every other American.”

In his letter, Alito also made a point that one would think feminists would love: he’s not the boss of his wife.

“She makes her own decisions, and I have always respected her right to do so,” Alito wrote. “She has made many sacrifices to accommodate my service on the Supreme Court, including the insult of having to endure numerous, loud, obscene, and personally insulting protests in front of our home that continue to this day and now threaten to escalate.”

The Appeal To Heaven “controversy” has revealed just how hypocritical and low Democrats are willing to go to attack our institutions. Zero people, including BLM protestors, believed that Washington’s “The Pine Tree” flag was controversial until Democrats needed to find a way to attack Alito.

In fact, until it became necessary to keep up the hoax, the most liberal city in America happily flew the flag.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that “eighteen flags have billowed over the neat rows of plane trees in San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza, among them a yellow ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ flag, a Texas Lone Star flag and — until Saturday — an ‘Appeal to Heaven’ flag like the one that has pitched Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito into controversy due to its association with the Jan. 6 insurrection.

The Appeal to Heaven flag, which bears a pine tree on a white background with its titular slogan, was among the original 18 raised by the city on June 14Flag Day — in 1964, each commemorating ‘a key moment in or symbol in American history,’ according to a statement from the Recreation and Park Department, which manages the Pavilion of American Flags across from City Hall.”

The flag, which, remember, was supposedly a sign of support for the January 6 mobbing of the Capitol that everyone knew about, only came down on Saturday, three and a half years after the fact.

Commentator Noah Rothman summed up the entire ordeal:

Now that Clarence Thomas and Sam Alito have both refused to bow to pressure from their critics, liberals have moved on to target another Supreme Court justice with their ridiculousness.

In a big headline that said EXCLUSIVE, Rolling Stone Magazine reported that Amy Coney Barrett’s husband, a lawyer in his own right, has clients, including Fox News.

Why this is a problem, her husband does not argue cases before the Supreme Court, was not really explained, but rest assured, liberals will be screaming for her recusal soon enough.
