The ranking member of the Senate Judiciary, Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, recently sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray that makes some pretty strong allegations. The senator believes that the Department of Justice and the FBI intentionally underplayed damaging information about Joe Biden’s son and his brother James to help swing the 2020 election.
CBS News has reviewed the information and wrote,” ‘Highly credible'” whistleblowers have come forward to a senior Senate Republican alleging a widespread effort within the FBI to downplay or discredit negative information about President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.”
President Donald Trump once claimed that the “Deep State” at various intelligence agencies had a way of impacting elections and worked to undermine his presidency.Â
Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer seemed to agree and commented in 2017, “Let me tell you, you take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you.” Neither statements are particularly confidence-builders when considering the relationship between the people and their government.Â
Senator Grassley seems ready and not at all fearful to take the federal intelligence bureaucracy on. His letter states, “The information provided to my office involves concerns about the FBI’s receipt and use of derogatory information relating to Hunter Biden, and the FBI’s false portrayal of acquired evidence as disinformation. The volume and consistency of these allegations substantiate their credibility and necessitate this letter.”
The Federalist offers more: The FBI and Department of Justice are under scrutiny for applying a double standard of justice to their political enemies and prematurely closing investigations — specifically into Hunter Biden — that could yield information that would hurt their preferred political outcomes. In a scathing letter addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray on Monday, Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley detailed how partisanship has long tainted how the FBI and DOJ conduct their investigations.
“Attorney General Garland and Director Wray, simply put, based on the allegations that I’ve received from numerous whistleblowers, you have systemic and existential problems within your agencies,” Grassley said. “You have an obligation to the country to take these allegations seriously, immediately investigate and take steps to institute fixes to these and other matters before you.”
Relying on reports from “highly credible” whistleblowers in both government agencies, Grassley specifically explained how the FBI sought to “improperly discredit negative Hunter Biden information as disinformation and caused investigative activity to cease.” Because of the actions of several high-ranking federal officials, Grassley said, “verified and verifiable derogatory information on Hunter Biden was falsely labeled as disinformation.”
“The aforementioned allegations put a finer point on concerns that I have raised for many years about political considerations infecting the decision-making process at the Justice Department and FBI,” Grassley wrote. “If these allegations are true and accurate, the Justice Department and FBI are — and have been — institutionally corrupted to their very core to the point in which the United States Congress and the American people will have no confidence in the equal application of the law.”
Grassley’s letter discusses Timothy Thibault, an assistant special agent in charge at the FBI’s Washington Field Office. The senator had previously written Garland and Wray a letter contending, “ASAC Thibault has demonstrated a pattern of active public partisanship, such as using his official title for public partisan posts relating to his superiors and matters under the FBI’s purview, that is likely a violation of his ethical obligations as an FBI employee.”Â
Looking at the whistleblower complaints, freelance writer Rusty Weiss noted two allegations, “One, that the FBI had information in 2020 on alleged ‘criminal financial and related activity” engaged in by Hunter Biden, and two, that the bureau allegedly set up a team to discredit negative information as ‘disinformation,’ a move that ’caused investigative activity to cease.'”
In October 2020, the New York Post ran the headline “Smoking-gun email reveals how Hunter Biden introduced Ukrainian businessman to VP dad” and announced that they had received a laptop showing that Hunter Biden was in deep with several foreign connections that could undermine his father’s potential administration. Biden’s allies in the media and bureaucracy quickly went into action to try and discredit the story.Â
Last March, several newspapers confirmed, however, that they and former intelligence officers did the dirty work to conceal the truth behind the Hunter Biden laptop. It now appears that calling the New York Post was “Russian disinformation” was a broad strategy, adopted by the Biden campaign, to drag the ailing candidate past the finish line in November 2020.Â
To make matters worse for the Bidens, a few weeks ago, users of the website 4chan claimed to have broken into a backup of Hunter Biden’s iCloud, iPhone, and iPad. The post announced that they hold 450 gigabytes of data and many have started leaking it across social media.Â
Much of the data revealed things beyond just embarrassing videos and photos. It also showed that the current president had lied about his son and brother’s risky connections. There were several saved conversations that were accessed between various members of the Biden family.Â
NCP reported, “Joe Biden had previously insisted that he did not know of the crown prince of the Biden family’s ties to corrupt businessmen from foreign countries. In 2019, then-candidate Biden said, ‘I’ve never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings. Here’s what I know — I know Trump deserves to be investigated…You should be looking at Trump. Trump’s doing this because he knows I’ll beat him like a drum.'”
One wonders if the federal bureaucracy didn’t quite understand how careless Hunter was with his technology. Maybe they just didn’t fully comprehend the natural incompetence that seems to come along with being a Biden.
Now it looks like the FBI and DOJ were involved in covering this up, or at least pushing the “Russian disinformation” con. That should disturb every American, regardless of whether you are a Republican, Democrat or anything else. Senator Grassley says:Â
“The aforementioned allegations put a finer point on concerns that I have raised for many years about political considerations infecting the decision-making process at the Justice Department and FBI. If these allegations are true and accurate, the Justice Department and FBI are – and have been – institutionally corrupted to their very core to the point in which the United States Congress and the American people will have no confidence in the equal application of the law. Attorney General Garland and Director Wray, simply put, based on the allegations that I’ve received from numerous whistleblowers, you have systemic and existential problems within your agencies. You have an obligation to the country to take these allegations seriously, immediately investigate and take steps to institute fixes to these and other matters before you.”Â
The Iowa senator isn’t just asking questions or playing gotcha. He’s demanding answers from some of the most powerful law enforcement officers in America. He continues: “In light of the serious allegations and my ongoing investigation into Justice Department and FBI misconduct, I expect you to provide the following no later than August 8, 2022, as a preliminary matter so that Congress can perform an objective and independent review of the alleged misconduct:
- The case file for the Auten assessment.
- All records derived from reporting on derogatory information linked to Hunter Biden, James Biden, and their foreign business relationships that was overseen under the approval, guidance and purview of ASAC Thibault from January 1, 2020, to the present.
- All records related to derogatory information on Hunter Biden, James Biden, and their foreign business relationships.
- All leads sent to the WFO that were under the purview of ASAC Thibault that were ordered closed by ASAC Thibault and/or denied for opening by the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section.
- All opened and closed cases initiated by the WFO that were under the purview of ASAC Thibault that were ordered closed by ASAC Thibault and/or denied for opening by the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section.”
Senator Grassley made an open call for more whistleblowers to come forward, as well.Â
He wrote: “Grassley frequently hears from current and former government employees who come forward to shine a light on fraud, waste, abuse and gross mismanagement in government agencies or by government contractors. He protects the identities of these sources and frequently promotes policies that shield whistleblowers from retaliation. Individuals wishing to call attention to mismanagement or misconduct within the Justice Department and its component agencies, such as the FBI, about the aforementioned allegations or other misconduct should contact Sen. Grassley’s investigations unit at (202) 224-3738 or email wb_reports@judiciary-rep.senate.gov.
Director Wray has personally committed to Senator Grassley that whistleblowers who have come forward will not face retaliation.”
The Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Dick Durbin of Illinois, did not comment on the letter. He has previously made attempts to downplay Hunter and James Biden’s alleged corruption, but he is rarely asked questions by the media about the issues, lest he embarrass himself or the White House.
During the 2020 campaign, the Illinois senator endorsed Joe Biden, telling supporters, “America needs a President who can start to heal the wounds of this divided nation. Joe Biden will be that President.”Â
